Second Sunday Family FUNDay with the Montclair Historical Society

MONTCLAIR, NJ — The Montclair Historical Society will host its Second Sunday Family FUNday on Sunday, Dec. 11, from 1 to 4 p.m. Step back from the hustle and bustle of the holiday season and enjoy family fun at both of the Montclair Historical Society’s historic houses: The Crane House and Historic YWCA at 108 Orange Road and the Shultz House at 30 North Mountain Ave. At the Crane House and Historic YWCA, there will be storytime, ornament-making, hearth cooking demonstrations and special tours that talk about holiday traditions past for children. Tours begin at 1, 2 and 3 p.m.

At the Shultz House, DJ Mac will bring his more than 100-year-old horned gramophones for a day of lo-fi antique musical entertainment. Mac will be playing 78 rpm records from his own collection plus records from a secret stash of 78s found in the Shultz House that have not been played for 100 years. Come in period attire and enjoy the immersive sounds of these crank-up talking machines. Tours at the Shultz House begin at 1:30 and 2:30 p.m. The Shultz House will close to the public at 3:30 p.m. for the society’s Secret Speakeasy event for adults. Admission for family day is charged, though family membership gets you in free.
