NEWARK, NJ — On Oct. 20, Essex County Commissioner President Wayne L. Richardson offered greetings at the Essex County Appreciation Night performance of the UniverSoul Circus show in Newark. That night’s performance was part of a two-week stretch of shows in Weequahic Park and was attended by New Jersey first lady Tammy Murphy.

The UniverSoul Circus is a black-owned traveling circus based in Atlanta, Ga., and founded by Cedric Walker in 1994. During the last 28 years, the circus has performed more than 14,000 shows to 25 million people.

“The UniverSoul Circus is a critically acclaimed, family-friendly entertainment event that can be enjoyed by all people,” Richardson said. “Weequahic Park is one of Newark’s prominent community locations, and I was honored to welcome the UniverSoul Circus to Essex County.”
