NEWARK, NJ — Mayor Ras Baraka has announced that the city of Newark and the Newark Public Library are teaming up to offer “Pop-Up Census Sites” in the lots and courtyards of three library branches on Wednesdays and Fridays, from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., all through the month of July.
The program is designed to enable Newark residents to fill out their census 2020 forms with ease and social distancing to ensure that the city’s population is accurately counted. City staff will be on hand to assist residents in completing the forms.
“At this time in our city and nation’s history, it is more important than ever for Newark’s population to be fairly and accurately counted so that we can be properly represented in Congress and receive all the federal support and assistance our city deserves. It is imperative that our residents complete the census and I’m thankful that Newark Public Library is joining with us to host these ‘Pop-up Census Sites’ in an effort to increase participation,” Baraka said.
The pop-up events will be held from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. each Wednesday and Friday in July at the following Newark Public Library sites: Van Buren Branch parking lot, 140 Van Buren St.; North End Branch parking lot, 722 Summer Ave.; and Springfield Branch courtyard, 50 Hayes St.
