Set in New York City in 1922 during the height of the Jazz Age, “Thoroughly Modern Millie” tells the story of Millie Dillmount from small-town Kansas who comes to the big city to make a new life for herself. Her plan is to work as a secretary for a wealthy man and then marry him, but there are other things in store for Millie. This high-spirited musical promises a charming heroine, flappers, tappers, unexpected love interests, and a villainess you will love to hate.
Music for “Thoroughly Modern Millie” is by Jeanine Tesori, lyrics by Dick Scanlan, and book by Richard Morris and Dick Scanlan. This NHS Performing Arts production features a cast of Nutley High School students as well as a live orchestra of students and professionals. The production staff includes director Austin Vallies, musical directors Austin Vallies and Nicole Monte, assistant directors Eric Wdowiak and Michael Gurrieri, choreographer Cara Conte, set and lighting designer James Gardner, and sound designer Henry Meola.
