Nutley Library reopens its doors with new hours, guidelines

NUTLEY, NJ — The Nutley Public Library building reopened at reduced capacity and limited services to Nutley and BCCLS library cardholders on Tuesday, July 14.

Temporary hours of operation, which are subject to change, are:

  • For contact-free pickup at the main entrance: Mondays from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and Thursdays and Saturdays from 2 to 4 p.m.
  • For entrance to the building for the public to browse and borrow: Tuesdays from 4 to 8 p.m.; and Thursdays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Contact-free pickup service located outside at the main entrance will continue to be the primary way that patrons gain access to physical library materials. Requests can continue to be made by phone at 973-667-0405, ext. 2604; by email at library@nutleynj.org; or through the BCCLS online catalog at bccls.org. Library programming will continue to be offered virtually.

The primary purpose of reopening the building is to allow browsing and borrowing. Upon entering the library, all patrons ages 3 and older are required to wear a proper face covering over their mouth and nose at all times; hands and/or shirts are not considered proper face coverings.

Upon entering the library, patrons are requested to sanitize their hands. Hand sanitizer stations are available throughout the building. Visitors must maintain 6 feet between themselves and others.

All patrons ages 13 and younger must be accompanied by an adult caregiver over the age of 18.

The number of patrons allowed in the building at one time is 10; each patron is limited to 30 minutes in the library per day. When waiting outside for entry, patrons must form a line along the railing and keep their distance from others on the line.

All materials must be returned to the outside book-drop, which is open 24/7. No returns will be accepted inside the building. All returned library materials will be quarantined for a minimum of 72 hours. Quarantine and cleaning returned materials will impact hold times. As a result, patron borrowing is limited to 10 checked-out materials per visit.

The following services are not available at this time: public computers, printing services, scanners, microfilms, electronic tablets and copy machines; historical records, multi-use print publications, newspapers, toys, puzzles, puppets and board games; meeting rooms, story time room, vending machines and water fountain; seating throughout the building; and notary service.
