NUTLEY, NJ — Two Scouts from Nutley Troop 147 of the Franklin Reformed Church received the Catholic Ad Altare Dei Award at a recent Scout Sunday ceremony at the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Newark.

Scouts Alvaro Flores and Anthony Gola received their awards from Rev. Eugene J. Field, the Archdiocesan Boy Scout chaplain. Forty Boy Scouts from Bergen, Essex and Union counties received this award, but Flores and Gola were the only ones from the Nutley.

Twenty Boy Scouts earned the Pope Pius XII Award for High School Scouts, and 135 Cub Scouts earned the Light of Christ or Parvuli Dei Awards. The Catholic Committee also honored eight adults with religious awards.

Flores and Gola of Nutley Troop 147 were counseled by Tom Ferrioli of Nutley, the AAD instructor for Troop 22 of Saint Thomas the Apostle Church of Bloomfield. Five Scouts from Bloomfield Troop 22 also received the Ad Altare Dei Award: Dan DiAntonio, Peter Haverk, Joe Lambiase, Steven Miller and Nick Swetz.
