NUTLEY, NJ — Nutley UNICO held its annual raffle drawing on Feb. 4 in support of the club’s scholarship program for Nutley High School seniors. Each year, high school students apply to the Nutley UNICO chapter for the opportunities to win some of more than $32,000 in scholarship funds.

Nutley UNICANs sold a total of 325 tickets at $100 to fund this worthwhile cause. Winners of the raffle were Bill Algieri in first place, Vito and Melissa Matturro in second, Anthony Rosamelia in third, and Frankie Turano in fourth. The fundraiser was coordinated by Mark DiMaggio, Tom Sposato and Sal Ferraro.

“UNICO is committed to education as a way to support and encourage the next generation to achieve their goals,” Nutley UNICO President Lorraine Kucinski said.

Each year, the first scholarship selection is a student for the Brian Piccolo Scholarship in order to meet the District VII timeline for their award. This year’s recipient is Billy Searle. Searle, a two-way lineman, was selected 1st Team All-State in New Jersey, making him first NHS football player to earn that honor since 1966, and he was recognized as one of New Jersey’s Coaches Association Super 100.
