Authorities seek assistance in solving EO man’s murder

NEWARK, NJ — Essex County Sheriff Armando Fontoura’s Crime Stoppers Program is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for the murder of Laquan Nowlin, 32, of East Orange.

On July 3, Nowlin was sitting in his vehicle at the intersection of Lanark and Sanford avenues in Newark when he was fatally shot by a person who exited the passenger seat of a dark-colored sedan. The shooter returned to the passenger seat and the vehicle fled southbound on Sanford Avenue, away from the murder scene.

Nowlin worked at the Essex County Juvenile Detention Center, but so far there is no evidence that the shooting was related to his employment. The investigation is active and ongoing.
