ORANGE, NJ — The Orange Citizens Action Group will present an online candidates forum on Saturday, Oct. 17, from 4 to 6 p.m. All nine candidates running for the three open seats on the Orange Board of Education have been invited to participate.
“This election is especially important,” said the Rev. Anthony Johnson, OCAG’s president. “After this election, the Board of Education will be entirely elected. It took a citizens’ campaign to transform the board from a body appointed by the mayor to an elected body, and three election cycles to replace those incumbents legitimately appointed by the mayor under the old system. This is the third cycle.”
Each candidate will make an opening statement, answer questions prepared by OCAG and respond to questions submitted by viewers during the live broadcast, which will be carried on Facebook and Zoom.
The Orange Citizens Action Group is composed of residents of the city of Orange who work at the grassroots level to address issues in the city. Its membership ranges in age from young parents to senior citizens. The Orange Citizens Action Group does not endorse candidates for election to any public office.
