ORANGE, NJ — The Housing Authority of the City of Orange and the Orange Housing Development Corporation will collaborate for its annual Youth Scholarship Golf Tournament on Monday, Sept. 14, at Brooklake Country Club in Florham Park. To help prevent the spread of COVID-19, all events will be held outdoors in accordance with the state and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines for social gatherings.
“I am happy that our agency is hosting its 10th anniversary golf scholarship outing for the children of our community,” HACO Executive Director Walter McNeil said. “These awards are designed to help cover tuition, fees, meals and/or any college-related expenses the participants face as they embark on their journey to higher education. The Orange Housing Authority and the city of Orange are pleased to help pave the way to an education by hosting our annual golf scholarship outing.”
Established in 2010, the youth scholarship event was created to assist program participants seeking to improve themselves through higher learning. With proceeds from the previous nine golf tournaments, scholarships exceeding $100,000 have been awarded to students. With help from the business community, students have been able to attend schools such as Montclair State University, Rutgers University, Seton Hall University and many more.
“As chairman of the Housing Authority of the City of Orange, I would like to congratulate our scholarship awardees and thank our donors that have made our scholarship program so successful over the past 10 years,” Ernest Williams said.
There will be contests, prizes and a wide range of sponsorship opportunities for those committed to increasing the number of college-educated youth in the community. The dinner reception and awards ceremony will be altered to take into account the COVID-19 social-distancing restrictions in the state of New Jersey.
