MAPLEWOOD, NJ — The Maplewood Green Team will host a social event on Thursday, March 9, from 7 to 9 p.m. to celebrate the group’s 10-year anniversary. The “Party with a Purpose” will take place at The Woodland, 60 Woodland Road in Maplewood, and will include light snacks, organic wines and a tasting led by Erie Ross, representing Maplewood-based The Grapes Unwrapped.
Assemblyman John McKeon will speak at the event. McKeon is one of the state’s leading legislative advocates for protecting New Jersey’s environment. He will present a “State of the Environmental State,” including actions that residents can take as individuals toward a sustainable New Jersey.
“We are excited about the local sustainability efforts under way and we hope people will join the Maplewood Green Team and sustainability-minded friends for this event,” Tracey Woods, chairwoman of the Maplewood Green Team, said in a release. Everyone is welcome to attend this free event.
The Maplewood Green Team was formed in 2007 by then Deputy Mayor for the Environment Fred Profeta and the team held its first Maplewood Green Day on Oct. 6, 2007. In the past 10 years, the Maplewood Green Team has become a leader in the state and has achieved silver-level certification from Sustainable Jersey for its projects and actions.
“A more sustainable Maplewood depends on all of us — government, business and individuals — being aware of how our actions impact our environment and each of us playing our part,” Maplewood Township Committeeman Greg Lembrich said in the release. “The ‘Party with a Purpose’ event will celebrate that involvement and provide valuable inspiration to the community members that attend.”
