Effect of school closings in the SOMSD

SOUTH ORANGE / MAPLEWOOD, NJ — The school district set aside three days for emergency closings in 2017-2018; however, the district has already used four days as a result of inclement weather, and Maplewood Middle School used a fifth day on March 9 due to lack of power.
The calendar approved by the Board of Education for 2017-2018 states: “Should the district use more than the three allotted emergency closing days, the first makeup day will be April 9, 2018, working forward to April 13, 2018 as needed; or at the end of the school year if emergency closings occur after April 13, 2018.”
Therefore, all schools in the district will be open Monday, April 9. On Tuesday, April 10, Maplewood Middle School will remain open, though all other district schools will be closed.
Should the district be closed for additional days, more makeup days will be added.
