SOUTH ORANGE, NJ — South Orange-Maplewood Adult School will present “I Shall Not Be Silent: A Lesson For Today” on Thursday, Dec. 13, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at South Orange Middle School’s Little Theater, 70 N. Ridgewood Road in South Orange.
Speaking before Martin Luther King Jr.’s famous “I Have a Dream” speech at the March on Washington in 1963, Rabbi Joachim Prinz declared: “America must not become a nation of onlookers. America must not remain silent.” Join SOMAS for a screening of the 2014 documentary film “Joachim Prinz: I Shall not Be Silent” and learn the story of the young rabbi in Berlin who stood up to the Nazi regime and was expelled to the United States only to find that the oppression he knew in Germany was replicated for black Americans here. After the film, Rachel Eskin Fisher, a co-producer of the film, will lead a discussion and question-and-answer session.
Attendance is charged. For more information, call 973-378-7620 or visit www.somadultschool.org.
