Joshi to present on racial identity in children

SOUTH ORANGE, NJ — The Parenting Center and the Elementary PTAs invite you to a presentation by Khyati Y. Joshi, “Understanding Your Child’s Racial Identity,” on Monday, Nov. 14, at 7:30 p.m. at South Mountain School, 44 W. South Orange Ave. in South Orange.

Joshi, a professor of education at Fairleigh Dickinson University, will discuss how to talk to your child about topics related to social justice and diversity. While the focus be on openly and supportively talking about race, racism and discrimination with children, Joshi will take an intersectional approach, also addressing other social identities, such as class, religion and sexual orientation. Joshi will also provide an opportunity for parents to consider their own social identities and how these identities impact the ways in which they view the world, their parenting practices and their day-to-day experiences.
