MAPLEWOOD, NJ — On Feb. 8 at 3:50 p.m., Maplewood Fire Department’s Platoon 1 responded to the department’s 10th emergency of the day. Arriving to a motor vehicle accident, MFD personnel found one patient trapped in the vehicle. Extrication operations began and, shortly thereafter, the patient was safely removed from the vehicle. The patient was treated and then transported to an area hospital.

This of course is not out of the ordinary for the Maplewood Fire Department, which in 2018 responded to 6,528 incidents — 2,360 fire calls, 1,563 emergency medical service calls, 2,213 fire code inspections and 392 smoke detector inspections.
