Maplewood police investigate series of overnight burglaries

Maplewood police seek the public’s help in identifying the man pictured; police believe he may be involved in a number of overnight burglaries.

MAPLEWOOD, NJ — Maplewood Police Department is currently investigating a number of overnight burglaries that occurred in the Golf Island area of town near Maplewood Middle School, according to a release from the department.

During one of the burglaries on Maple Avenue, on Aug. 11 at approximately 1:15 a.m., a homeowner confronted the suspect in his dining room. Once the suspect was confronted, he fled the home southbound on Salter Place and then into a backyard toward Burnett Street.

During a canvass, detectives viewed surveillance footage, that holds an image of the alleged perpetrator. At this time, detectives are canvassing the area and continuing the investigation. Extra police presence is being provided to the area and residents are encouraged to contact police if any suspicious persons or activity is observed.
