Maplewood police make arrest during burglary-in-progress

MAPLEWOOD, NJ — On Tuesday, Dec. 11, at approximately 11:50 a.m., the Maplewood Police Department responded to a call of a burglary in progress at 56 Park Ave. Upon arrival, Officers were checking the exterior of the residence when a male, Samuel Skeete, 21 of Maplewood, reportedly exited the back door of the residence and attempted to run away from the location. Officers gave chase and subsequently apprehended Skeete in the area of 139 Indiana St without incident.

Skeete was arrested and charged with burglary and eluding; a records check revealed numerous outstanding warrants for his arrest from multiple jurisdictions. Skeete was transported to the Essex County Detention Center.

“I want to thank and commend all of the officers involved for their hard work and job well done,” Maplewood Police Chief Jimmy DeVaul said in a press release.
