Maplewood police raid business on tips regarding prostitution

MAPLEWOOD, NJ — On July 10, the Maplewood Police Department conducted an undercover investigation at TWC Health Club, located at 2168 Millburn Ave., Suite 206, in Maplewood, according to a press release from the department. This investigation stemmed from numerous complaints from the public about possible prostutution and human trafficking at the business.

At approximately 7:30 p.m., an undercover Maplewood officer entered the establishment and was propositioned with sexual acts in exchange for monetary funds, according to the release. At this time, officers on standby were signaled to enter the establishment.

A total of five people were detained for investigative purposes. Daneil Fainman, 28, of Manalapan, was arrested and charged with promoting prostitution and Abidemi Roberts, 28, of Clifton, was arrested and charged with prostitution for monetary funds.

According to police, at this time the investigation has not revealed any evidence of human trafficking, though it did reveal that the business was operating without a license. The investigation is ongoing.

“The Maplewood Police Department works hard to protect our residents, their property and their quality of life,” the release read. “We are asking that you assist us in this effort by reporting any suspicious activity, criminal behavior and quality of life issues.”

All charged are merely accusations. Each suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
