Maplewood provides home improvement funds

MAPLEWOOD, NJ — The Maplewood Affordable Housing Program assists homeowners in the township with eligible repairs or replacement of major systems including roof, electrical safety upgrades, heating, plumbing, sanitary plumbing, weatherization and/or structural repairs. Assistance is provided in the form of a 10-year, interest-free, forgivable loan up to $20,000 per dwelling unit. There is no interest charged. There is no monthly payment. The loan is forgiven after 10 years if the property owner complies with the program guidelines.

There is no cost to apply and it does not affect your credit score. CGP&H, a consulting firm specializing in affordable housing programs, administers the program for the township. CGP&H’s professional inspectors work with program participants to identify needed repairs and to monitor construction completion. The program has already renovated 53 homes in Maplewood with program funds.

Homeowners are encouraged to go to www.hip.cgph.net for more program information, including income guidelines and to submit a one-page preliminary application. The maximum allowable income ranges from $50,744 for a one-person household to $95,689 for an eight-person household. Your financial information is kept confidential. Funds are provided on a first-come, first-served basis until all funds are expended.
