Maplewood to review applications for police chief

MAPLEWOOD, NJ — According to Mayor Vic DeLuca in a Feb. 10 email to the News-Record, two members of the Maplewood Police Department have applied for the position of police chief: acting Chief Jimmy DeVaul and Lt. Kevin Kisch.

The Township Committee will interview each candidate on Saturday, March 3.

On Monday, March 5, the township will hold a community meetings at The Woodland, 60 Woodland Road, to give community members the opportunity to meet DeVaul and Kisch. Residents will be welcomed and given the evening’s procedures beginning at 7:30 p.m.; have the opportunity to meet with DeVaul from 7:45 to 8:30; have the opportunity to meet with Kisch from 8:45 to 9:30; and provide input to the township from 9:30 to 10. The community meeting will be a combination of a candidate presentation and a question-and-answer period. The Township Committee will be present in the audience, but will not participate in the meeting.

The Township Committee will discuss the appointment of a new chief in closed session at its March 20 meeting. The committee may schedule an additional interview of each candidate at that time. The Township Committee may select a police chief in open session on March 20.
