Meadowland Park tennis court reconstruction to begin April 24

SOUTH ORANGE, NJ — Reconstruction of the tennis courts in Meadowland Park is scheduled to begin on or about April 24, according to a recent press release from the village. The complex, which holds eight tennis courts, was constructed in 1978 and is located adjacent to the Baird on Mead Street. The courts will be rebuilt with all new surfacing, fencing and sports lighting. The tennis court project is expected to take approximately 90 days to complete.

Spring is a very busy time in Meadowland Park, according to the release. While a temporary inconvenience for resident tennis players and users of the surrounding fields and park area, the village and the Department of Recreation are thrilled this improvement to Meadowland Park and its facilities is under way. Alternate tennis courts located nearby include those at Cameron Field and Farrell Field in South Orange and Memorial Park in Maplewood. The Baird parking lot will remain open and available during most of the construction; however, there may be some temporary parking lot interruptions and the loss of some spaces. Park patrons are encouraged to use Meadowbrook Lane and surrounding street parking and may want to consider walking into the park from nearby village parking lots during busy periods.
