Parenting Center to present ‘Divided in a Diverse Community’

SOUTH ORANGE, NJ — The South Orange-Maplewood School District Parenting Center will present “Divided in a Diverse Community: Why Intentional Integration Matters” featuring 2017 MacArthur Genius Award recipient Nikole Hannah-Jones on Wednesday, Feb. 7, at 7:15 p.m. at South Orange Middle School, 70 N. Ridgewood Road in South Orange.

Hannah-Jones is the author of the highly influential, National Magazine Award-winning New York Times article documenting school segregation. She is the recipient of the a Peabody and a George Polk Award for earlier work on the topic, and a founder of the Ida B. Wells Society for Investigative Reporting. At the event, she will discuss why intentional integration matters and which school desegregation plans have worked and which have failed across the country.
