Philip Altbach to launch distinguished speaker series at Seton Hall University

SOUTH ORANGE, NJ — Seton Hall University’s College of Education and Human Services inaugural Higher Education Distinguished Speaker Series begins Monday, Oct. 31, at 6 p.m. in McNulty Hall 101-Science Amphitheatre with a special guest, world-renowned research professor Philip Altbach. Altbach’s lecture on “The Global Academic Revolution: What Does It Mean for the U.S.?” will be followed by a panel and general discussion featuring Rajika Bhandari, deputy vice president of research and evaluation at the Institute of International Education, and Dawn Whitehead, senior director of global initiatives at the Association of American Colleges and Universities.

The program is free and open to the general public in addition to the Seton Hall University community. All who wish to gain a better understanding of how the 21st-century global society impacts and influences the changing climate of education here and abroad are encouraged to attend.

Altbach is Monan Professor Emeritus of Higher Education at Boston College and director emeritus of the Center for International Higher Education at Boston College’s Lynch School of Education. He was the 2004-2006 Distinguished Scholar Leader for the New Century Scholars initiative of the Fulbright program. He has been a senior associate of the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, and served as editor of the Review of Higher Education, Comparative Education Review and as an editor of Educational Policy.

This lecture is made possible through the vision and generosity of the College of Education and Human Services and the School of Diplomacy and International Relations. The lecture is the first in this new series, which brings world-class speakers and experts to the Seton Hall University campus to present on vital and current issues facing the higher education community.
