SOUTH ORANGE, NJ — With the onset of the holiday season, South Orange’s Seton Village Committee is delighted to “Light Up the Holidays in Seton Village” for the fourth consecutive year. This year’s community tree lighting will take place on Friday, Dec. 8.
“We’re thrilled that the tree lighting has become a holiday staple that offers something for everyone, grownups and kids alike,” Seton Village Committee Chairman Doug Zacker said in a press release. “The tree lighting is the culmination of all the work our volunteers have done to beautify the corridor and make it a destination for shoppers, restaurant-goers, Seton Hall University students and neighborhood residents.”
The celebration, which is free and open to the public, will take place from 5:30 to 7 p.m. and will be held in and around the pocket park at Irvington and West Fairview avenues in the Seton Village neighborhood of South Orange. The lighting of the 20-foot tree that borders the park will take place just after the arrival of the evening’s special guest: Santa Claus. Santa, who will be accompanied by Seton Hall University’s mascot, the Pirate, will also be available for photos throughout the evening.
A selection of crafts for children will be on-hand to keep families busy. In addition to children’s activities, the event will feature music from a variety of local entertainers, including a performance from Seton Hall University’s a cappella group, The Gentlemen of the Hall; a preview of interACT Theater Productions’ upcoming production of “Black Nativity”; several numbers from Seton Village-based performing arts studio Class Act; and the crowd-pleasing stylings of Columbia High School’s a cappella group, Unaccompanied Minors.
Refreshments will be provided. Seton Village T-shirts will also be available for purchase at the event, and local restaurants will feature specials offers and discounts.
