SHU to hold live test of emergency siren and PirateAlert systems

SOUTH ORANGE, NJ — On Tuesday, Nov. 14, at 11:55 a.m., Seton Hall University will conduct a live test of its emergency siren and PirateAlert systems. The systems are designed to alert the campus community of an emergency situation that requires them to seek shelter indoors for their safety. The siren is centrally located on the highest point on campus, and will sound a wail tone that is followed by a recorded message with instructions to seek shelter. A steady tone will sound with an “all clear” recorded message at the end of the live test.

The system is tested silently on a regular basis and a “live” test is conducted twice each year — once in the fall semester and once again in the spring semester in order to familiarize the campus community with the sound of the siren.
