SHU presents ‘Speaking Truth: Religion in the News Media’

SOUTH ORANGE, NJ — Join the Institute for Communication and Religion within the College of Communication and the Arts at Seton Hall University for its inaugural event, “Speaking Truth: Religion in the News Media,” featuring a keynote address from The Wall Street Journal columnist and former presidential speechwriter William McGurn. The event will be Thursday, Nov. 2, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
The evening will also include an interreligious panel discussion moderated by Ki Joo Choi, chairman of the Department of Religion; a question-and-answer session; and a meet-and-greet opportunity.

Panelists include Jim Goodness, spokesperson for the Archdiocese of Newark; Athar Murtuza, associate professor in the Department of Accounting and Taxation at Seton Hall University, where his research deals with the history of accounting and on the nexus of accountability and religious beliefs; and Yael Katzwer, managing editor of the News-Record of Maplewood & South Orange and the West Orange Chronicle.

The event will be held in the Jubilee Hall Atrium, on the fourth floor, at Seton Hall University, 400 South Orange Ave., South Orange. The event is free and open to the public. Pre-registration is strongly encouraged at www.shu.edu/speakingtruth. Light refreshments will be served.
