SOUTH ORANGE, NJ — Seton Hall University will host a forum on “Modern Slavery: 21st Century Solutions” on Friday, Sept. 27, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in Bethany Hall on campus, 400 South Orange Ave. in South Orange.
The forum will focus on finding solutions to a crisis in which 25 million people are trapped in human trafficking around the globe. Nadia Murad will provide the keynote address at 3 p.m. Murad, 26, was kidnapped from her hometown in 2014 and held by ISIS for three months. She received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2018 for her work to prevent sexual violence and genocide.
The day-long conference is being sponsored by Seton Hall’s School of Diplomacy and International Relations, in partnership with the Slave Free Community Project, New Jersey Coalition Against Human Trafficking and the International Justice Project. Panelists will explore topics such as the impact of modern slavery in the United States, slavery as an instrument of armed conflict, human exploitation in consumer product manufacturing and how human trafficking can be prevented with help from current technology.
