South Mountain Y aims to keep you busy this winter

MAPLEWOOD, NJ — The South Mountain YMCA is making it easy and fun for children and adults to stay active and engaged throughout the winter, offering dozens of programs in sports, the arts and enrichment classes.

Registration is under way for the Winter 1 session, which starts Jan. 6 and runs through March 2. Here are a few highlights:

  • Basketball enthusiasts in grades one through four can learn the fundamentals and teamwork in clinics alone, or in a program that combines clinic and league play;
  • Little Chefs, Slimy Science and The Art of Comics and Cartooning are among two dozen enrichment classes from which children can choose; Little Chefs is taught by a trained chef, who encourages children to explore food preparation techniques as they make a delicious and healthy recipe to take home at the end of each session;
  • Little ones as young as 2 and a half can plie and pirouette in the Y’s ballet classes; and
  • The Y offers 15 levels of gymnastics, from Tiny Tumblers to the ACES competitive team.

South Mountain Y members may also register for a wide range of programs at the West Essex YMCA. The Winter 1 program guide is available at smountainymca.org or by clicking here. Call 973-992-7500 for more information.
