South Orange to relaunch its commuter jitney Nov. 15

SOUTH ORANGE, NJ — The village of South Orange and the South Orange Parking Authority has announced that the commuter jitney service will restart, with its new schedule to begin Monday, Nov. 15. 

Due to a number of factors the service has been revised from four to two primary routes: one covering the Newstead and Wyoming neighborhoods; and one covering the Montague, Ward, Tuxedo Park and Montrose neighborhoods. The Newstead route will include all of the previous stops in Newstead plus additional stops along North Wyoming Ave down to Franklin and Melrose. The Tuxedo Park route will begin on Montague Place to Ward to include some of the former Irvington Avenue area before proceeding to Tuxedo Park and Montrose. Regarding fees, a valid 2020 pass will be honored from Nov. 15, 2021, through Aug. 30, 2022; this covers the 9.5 months of unused time in 2020. Beginning Sept. 1, 2022, a prorated pass will be available for purchase for the balance of the year. Call the office for purchase information at 973-378-7715, ext. 2037.

New riders from Nov. 15 through Dec. 31 will pay as they go. An annual pass will be available for purchase for 2022. Call the office for purchase information. 

Riders are required to wear face masks. The buses will be sanitized daily.
