SOUTH ORANGE, NJ — Temple Sharey Tefilo-Israel, located at 432 Scotland Road in South Orange, will host the following programs in November, which are open to the public.
- On Wednesday, Nov. 13, explore the rich breadth of Jewish literature through the lens of the Jewish short story and the Jewish texts that have inspired them, in an eight-session series, “Short Stories and the Jewish Texts.” Classes, led by Cantor Rebecca Moses, will be held on the second Wednesday of every month, except for the first Wednesday in April, at 7 p.m. A fee is charged; half of the fee will be donated to The Interfaith Food Pantry of the Oranges. Future classes are scheduled for Dec. 11, Jan. 8, Feb. 12, March 11, April 1, May 13 and June 10. - On Sunday, Nov. 17, TSTI will screen “Back to Berlin,” a biker flick meets Holocaust feature documentary about the 2015 European Maccabi Games that were held in Germany for the first time since the Second World War. The film follows 11 bikers from Tel Aviv who recreate the journey undertaken before the first Maccabi Games in 1932, to fly the Israeli flag through Europe and to carry the Maccabiah torch with them. The screening, at 7 p.m., will be followed by an interactive discussion moderated by the film’s director or producer. Snacks will be served.
