SOUTH ORANGE, NJ — The religious school students at Temple Sharey Tefilo-Israel in South Orange dove into their second Muffin Marathon on Sunday, Feb. 3, to benefit the Interfaith Food Pantry of the Oranges. Students and their families gathered in the synagogue kitchen after school to bake more than 400 muffins and decorate cards for IFPO clients.
TSTI is one of four area houses of worship that supports the food pantry, which serves residents of Orange and East Orange who are facing food insecurity. Supporting the IFPO is a major community outreach initiative for the synagogue, with participants of all ages helping to stock shelves, assist clients, prepare and serve meals, and provide gifts of cheer throughout the year. The curriculum at the religious school, for students K-12, includes many lessons and experiences around social action as a reflection of Jewish values.
