SOUTH ORANGE, NJ — Temple Sharey Tefilo-Israel, located at 432 Scotland Road in South Orange, will host a Shabbat, Scholar & Supper on Friday, Oct. 25, with guest speaker Ralph Nurnberger, who will present “Understanding the Balfour Declaration and its Lasting Impact on the Middle East.” The service, which is open to all, starts at 6 p.m. and the dinner and presentation immediately follow at 7 p.m. Admission is charged. Nurnberger will discuss how the Balfour Declaration, the various players and other events during World War I continue to affect current Middle East conflicts. A former professor of history and international relations at Georgetown University, Nurnberger has served on the professional staff of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and was a legislative liaison for the American Israel Public Affairs Committee. He has advised numerous congressional, senatorial and presidential campaigns on foreign policy issues, especially those related to the Middle East, and served as a senior fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies. His articles have appeared in leading daily newspapers and numerous scholarly journals and magazines.
