SOUTH ORANGE, NJ — The South Orange Fire Department responded to a telephone report from central dispatch for a report of a structure fire on July 18 at approximately 8:20 p.m. at 70 Harding Drive, according to a press release from the department.
Arriving fire department units found a working house fire involving the second floor of the structure. An immediate fire attack and search and rescue mission was launched by all responding companies. By 11:10 p.m., the fire had been extinguished.
Mutual aid was summoned from surrounding fire departments, including Orange, Maplewood, and East Orange. Fire units from Roseland, West Orange and Montclair were assigned as cover departments at the South Orange Fire Headquarters during this incident.
One firefighter was transported to a local hospital due to heat stress and exhaustion. One civilian was treated and released at the scene by the South Orange Rescue Squad. The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time and remains under investigation.
