Annual ‘Lefty’ Boland golf outing supports special needs in WO

WEST ORANGE, NJ — The annual William “Lefty” Boland Charity Golf Outing is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 2, at Essex County Country Club in West Orange. The day begins with a barbecue lunch on the patio; at the conclusion of the tournament the venue shifts to nearby Libretti’s Restaurant for a cocktail hour, dinner and awards. Lefty Boland was a revered figure in West Orange having served as the township’s recreation director for the better part of four decades. This event is the longest running golf tournament in West Orange. It is the main fundraising arm of the Boland Grants which provide funds to special needs classes and programs in the West Orange public schools. Grants are earmarked for the purchase of technology items such as iPads, computers and smartboards.

Slots for players are available as well as opportunities for sponsorships. All information can be accessed on the Township’s website at www.westorange.org. Navigate to the Recreation Department and click on the golf section. The Boland Tournament is sponsored by the all-volunteer Boland Golf Committee.
