WEST ORANGE, NJ — Residents of the Cliffs at Eagle Rock assisted living facility recently raised $126 to support the Fresh Air Fund by doing laps around the Cliffs at Eagle Rock campus. The funds are their contribution to help support the efforts of the Fresh Air Fund to allow inner-city children the opportunity to have a camp experience.
One of the walkers, Carmine D’Alessio, who was honored for the number of laps he made to support the fund, had himself been a recipient of the Fresh Air Fund Camp program in his youth.
“I want everyone to know I was sent to camp myself by this organization,” D’Alessio said in a release. “That was back in the ’30s when I was about 8-years-old. My family was living in Newark and the Fresh Air Fund sent me and my brother to camp for a week. It’s a week I will never forget.”
In 1877, The Fresh Air Fund, an independent not-for-profit organization, was created with one simple mission: to allow children living in low-income communities to get away from hot, noisy city streets and enjoy free summer experiences in the country.
The Cliffs at Eagle Rock is a nonprofit assisted living community in the heart of West Orange. To learn more about the Cliffs, call 973-699-0011.
