Improving communication, boundaries with your children

MONTCLAIR / WEST ORANGE, NJ — COPE Center will hold free parenting workshops on communication and boundaries. The first workshop will be Saturday, Nov. 3, from 10:30 a.m. to noon at Union Congregational Church, 176 Cooper Ave. in Montclair; this session is co-sponsored by Union Congregational Church and Montclair Community Intervention Alliance. The second workshop will be Sunday, Nov. 18, from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at West Orange Public Library, 46 Mt. Pleasant Ave. in West Orange; this session is co-sponsored by West Orange Municipal Alliance.

While all children need guidance and boundaries, it can feel like life with children of all ages is a 24/7 battle. Fortunately, there are some concrete skills that can help. Join with other parents to learn how to “pick your spot,” communicate it clearly and stick to it. The workshop will also review active listening strategies and how this “soft skill” has value for your children both in and beyond the family. This workshop is ideal for parents and caregivers with children of all ages, especially pre-teens through young adults.

Pre-registration is required; email sjohnson@copecenter.net. For more information, visit www.spenj.org.
