JFS MetroWest offers 2 programs for suicide bereavement

FLORHAM PARK, NJ — JFS MetroWest continues to work on reducing stigma and raising awareness around mental illness and suicide through upcoming programming. JFS has partnered with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention to host Dr. Jack Jordan, an internationally renowned researcher and clinician in the field of suicide bereavement, for two events this December focused on coping with the loss of a loved one to suicide.

• On Tuesday, Dec. 11, an interactive workshop for survivors of suicide loss, will be held at JFS Offices, 256 Columbia Turnpike, Florham Park. This program is appropriate for anyone grieving the loss of a loved one to suicide and those who wish to support a grieving survivor. This is not a program for professionals, but rather community members directly impacted by suicide.
• On Wednesday, Dec. 12, Jordan will present “A Suicide Bereavement Clinician Training Program.” This is a full-day, six and a half hours, CEU/personal development training. The program is intended for, but not limited to, social workers, mental health professionals, educators, school counselors, community leaders and professionals. The workshop is funded by the Eric Eliezer Levenson Foundation for Hope, which is in memory of Eric, son of Eta and Mark Levenson, and supports programming related to mental health awareness. It is also funded by a matching grant by the Jewish Funders Network and Genesis Prize Foundation as part of the “Breaking Barriers” initiative aimed at promoting inclusion for those with disabilities in Jewish life. With these funds, JFS MetroWest is taking on endeavors to increase direct practice services through staff trainings as well as respond to and educate the community specific to mental health and suicide prevention with the goal of raising awareness and reducing stigma.
