Men Make A Difference to honor locals for community service

WEST ORANGE, NJ — Men Make A Difference, a West Orange-based company, will honor West Orange Police Office Jerome Pleasants and two residents, Tyrone Brooks and Elmer McBurrows, at its Community Service Recognition Brunch. The affair will be held Saturday, June 11, at the Second Baptist Church Conference Center, 93 Liberty St. in Long Branch, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Pleasants, Brooks and McBurrows will be celebrated with 11 other men from New Jersey. The event has been designed to recognize men who have distinguished themselves as fathers, surrogate fathers and mentors through their families, their communities and their own lives.

The celebration will be conducted in collaboration with the Greater Long Branch NAACP. It will also feature Thabiti Boone, President Obama’s representative on fatherhood and mentoring, as the keynote speaker.

Proceeds will benefit the W.E.B. DuBois Economic Development Corporation, Long Branch, a 501(c)3 organization.
