WEST ORANGE, NJ — Jim Pond, owner of Jersey Mike’s Subs on Prospect Avenue, has chosen the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation as the recipient for Jersey Mike’s March “Month of Giving.”
Sean Squires, 18, is a senior at West Orange High School and an employee at the popular sub store. He also has cystic fibrosis, which he has battled all his life.
“Sean is family at Jersey Mike’s,” Pond said in a release. According to Pond, making the selection of his “Month of Giving” charity was simple.
Bill Squires, Sean Squires’ father, described the past few month for their son and the disease with which he struggles.
“Cystic fibrosis is a life-threatening genetic disease which affects the lungs and the digestive system. Currently, there is no cure,” Bill Squires said. “Sean has had a very rough few months, being hospitalized twice for weeks at a time and missing quite a bit of school. The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is working very hard to find a cure for this devastating disease. Because the CFF does not receive any funding for their research from the federal government, they rely on private donations and fundraisers by family and friends of those affected by this disease.”
Throughout March, Jersey Mike’s in West Orange will be displaying tear-off sheets for donations to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. They will also be handing out cards that say “Give $1, get $1 off a sub; Give $3, get free chips and drink with sub; and Give $5, get $5 off a giant sub.”
The fundraiser culminates March 30, with 100 percent of that day’s sales going to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
