WEST ORANGE, NJ — The National Honor Society inducted 43 West Orange High School students in a May 24 ceremony. The National Honor Society was established in 1921 and recognizes student excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service and character.
Current officers Brianna Gilliland, Kyla Trinidad, Candis Ferrell and Genesis Guedes presented certificates to the students with help from NHS co-advisers Catherine Connors and Anna D’Elia. Principal Hayden Moore welcomed students, parents and family members.
WOHS social studies teacher Michael Figueiredo was named by the students as having the most influence in their lives as an educator, and he addressed students by saying, “You will experience adversity in life, but it is what you do with it that matters.
“Preparation and passion are the two things you must possess to be successful,” he continued. “You must never quit … it’s up to you.”
Inductees include Arjun Abraham, Sophia Adelson, Deborah Alabi, Divya Anand, Robert Banks, Sam Banks, Jonathan Banks, Austin Bartola, Kristina Boafo, Jocelyn Cherian, Alex Choy, Trey Cohn, Bridget Cunningham, Abraham Dada, Samantha Dinio, Alexander Edelstein, Skyler Fleisher, Binyamin Grinberg, Olivianna Iriarte, Anthony King, Germanie Louis, Emily McCluskey, Bryce Millington, Ivana Onubogu, Melanie Pacheco, Linda Porcayo, Lauren Rossman, Andrei Rosu, Shaurya Sanhui, Nerissa Santa Cruz, Emma Scalora, Amanda Scalora, Anusha Sivendra, Peyton Smith, Acacia Tam, Mattison Touzeau, Bianca Trinidad, Daniela Vargas, Cianna Weary, Carolyn Yip and Kevin Zeligson. Joseph Onubogu and Vanessa Wapples were honorable mention fall inductees.
