Renovation named ‘Mel’s Spot’ in memory of Wallerstein

WEST ORANGE, NJ — The Wallerstein Foundation for Geriatric Life Improvement generously funded the refurbishment of the Slobodien Pavilion Solarium, in memory of Rita & Melvin Wallerstein. Mel Wallerstein’s family dedicated the renovation, calling it “Mel’s Spot,” as during his later years as a resident at Daughters of Israel, he enjoyed sitting in the solarium, visiting with his wife or reading the newspaper. He was very involved with Daughters of Israel. In addition to being a major benefactor of the home, he served as a board officer for two decades and was a vice president emeritus at the time of his death.
