WEST ORANGE, NJ — Eighth-grade Roosevelt Middle School student Makhi Green had the opportunity to attend the Fuel Up to Play 60 Ambassador Summit in Atlanta, Ga., from July 16 to 19.

Green was selected as West Orange’s student ambassador to represent the state of New Jersey. Ambassadors are student leaders who rally other students and commit to leading healthy, sustainable changes in their school. During the four days of the summit, Green learned new ways to implement the Fuel Up to Play 60 program at his school, gained insight into healthy eating and exercise from a plethora of professionals, improved his leadership skills, participated in cooking challenges, exercised and played football with NFL players, and created and performed a rap on healthy eating and exercise.

Green attended the summit with Roosevelt Middle School physical education and health teacher Bridget Haine, who serves as the Fuel Up to Play 60 program adviser at RMS.

The Fuel Up to Play 60 program promotes healthy eating and encourages 60 minutes of exercise daily. West Orange schools have been participating in Fuel Up to Play 60 initiatives since 2014.
