Run with the Devils and raise money for health care

WEST ORANGE, NJ — RWJBarnabas Health, the official health care provider of the New Jersey Devils, will hold its second “Running with the Devils 5K Run and Family Fun Walk,” in partnership with the New Jersey Devils, on Saturday, Nov. 3, at South Mountain Recreation Complex. Proceeds from the event will benefit programs and services at RWJBarnabas Health’s 11 statewide hospital facilities, hospice initiatives, the Behavioral Health Network and Children’s Specialized Hospital. Registration is now open at www.rwjbh.org/runningwiththedevils.

The day will kick off with a competitive 5K race on a USATF certified course through the picturesque South Mountain Reservation, complemented by a family fun walk through the reservation as well. Additional activities include interactive games, an appearance from the New Jersey Devils mascot, music, face painting and the opportunity to meet New Jersey Devils alumni.

The event is designed to bring together participants from across the state and support the collective commitment of RWJBarnabas Health and the New Jersey Devils to build stronger communities by promoting healthy, active lifestyles and world-class health care. Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo Jr. will serve as honorary chairman of the event.

“It’s exciting to establish and grow an annual philanthropic event that aligns with our mission of promoting healthy and active lifestyles, while benefiting all hospitals and facilities within the system,” said Barry H. Ostrowsky, president and chief executive officer at RWJBarnabas Health. “Alongside our partners from the New Jersey Devils, the RWJBarnabas Health ‘Running with the Devils 5K Run and Family Fun Walk’ reinforces our commitment to building stronger and healthier communities across New Jersey.”

The 5K race will begin at 9:30 a.m., followed immediately by the family fun walk. Registration is charged. All entries include free admission to Turtle Back Zoo for the day of the event, an event T-shirt and a completion medal. Awards for the 5K Run will be presented to the top three male, female and child finishers.

As part of the charitable aspect of RWJBarnabas Health “Running with the Devils,” and to encourage team participation, there will be several awards presented to individuals and teams who lead the fundraising efforts.
