WEST ORANGE, NJ — A uniformed Essex County sheriff’s officer was injured when he was struck by an automobile while directing traffic on Eagle Rock Avenue on Tuesday, Oct. 23, at 9:20 p.m.
The officer, who suffered three broken ribs, was hit by a late model Subaru, which was being operated by a 64-year-old woman. It is thought that the driver of the Subaru, who had slowed down, was distracted by the overhead lights of the officer’s marked vehicle, which had been activated.
The officer was transported to University Hospital for treatment of his injuries.
The driver was issued a motor vehicle summons for careless driving. No criminal charges were filed against the driver.
