WEST ORANGE, NJ — Alexander Howze, a longtime resident of West Orange and the surrounding area, has watched the industrial-to-residential redevelopment of the historic Edison Factory from the very start. Now, as one of the first residents of The Mews at Edison Lofts, Howze is looking forward to participating in the final stages of the Edison Village transformation by Prism Capital Partners.
“It’s exciting to be at the forefront as other residents begin to move in, and stores and restaurants plan their openings,” Howze, who originally relocated to West Orange with his family in 1995, said in a press release. “I graduated from West Orange High School, and my mom still lives in town. I have a wonderful history here and am thrilled to be living at The Mews.”
The Mews at Edison Lofts features a collection of 34 one- and two-bedroom newly constructed homes ready for immediate occupancy.
Originally built in 1913 by Thomas Edison, the factory complex on the site of Edison Village served as a manufacturing operation until 1965. The newly refurbished Thomas Edison National Historical Park and museum is located adjacent to the property, bounded by the historic Llewellyn Park, one of New Jersey’s premier gated communities.
This spring, Prism will finish The Residences at Edison Lofts, the adaptation of the 1913 original building into 300 studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom market-rate residences, and 20 penthouse duplex residences.
“Edison Village is a project of incredible quality — one that celebrates the rich history of the area while serving to anchor the future of this community,” Prism principal partner Edwin Cohen said in the release. “We are delighted to welcome our first residents, like Alexander, and know they will enjoy the unique living experience in Edison Village.”
