WEST ORANGE, NJ — Two new colorful historical markers were installed inside the Eagle Rock Reservation in West Orange on Oct. 8. The markers were placed side by side along the road near the entrance. They highlight the days of the long-gone Eagle Rock resort and the Eagle Rock Hill Climb, an auto race whose finish line was near this location. Archivist Kathy Kauhl of the Essex County Parks Department spearheaded the effort that began last year with the securing of a grant and aided in the design of the completed project. West Orange’s township historian, Joseph Fagan, provided valuable assistance in research and writing for the markers and supplied the images.
