Unidentified person dies in car fire on I-280

WEST ORANGE, NJ — An unidentified person died in a car fire early in the morning on Sunday, Feb. 17, after their vehicle became engulfed in flames on I-280, according to the township’s public information officer in a news release.

West Orange police responded to a vehicle accident on I-280 East in the area of Pleasant Valley Way a little before 1 a.m. to find the vehicle unrecognizable and fully involved in fire.

A person trapped in the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene, following extinguishment of the fire.

State police are investigating and no identification of the victim was made prior to West Orange fire officials leaving the scene.
