Valley revitalization under way with new Central Avenue development

WEST ORANGE, NJ — A 100-unit apartment building is beginning to take shape in the Valley Arts district of West Orange, according to a Dec. 10 press release from the West Orange Office of Public Information.

The four-story building — with one-level surface parking underneath — should be completed by early 2020. The $29 million project by The Alpert Group, a Fort Lee-based developer, Ironstate Development of Hoboken and Hands of Orange, is situated across from Orange’s Harvard Printing Apartments, a four-story mixed-use development on 2.5 acres completed earlier this year.

“It is a historic location,” Mayor Robert Parisi said of the project. “This is one of West Orange’s oldest and most cherished communities and we’re excited to see its resurgence.”

Meanwhile, the development — just blocks from the Highland Train Station — will boast onsite parking, a community lounge and laundry rooms on every floor.

“This is convenient housing,” Parisi said. “It is for professionals and people who want to live in a great suburban community with quick access to the city.”

The building will feature one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments ranging from 750 square feet to 1,275 square feet of living space.

Rental rates have not yet been set, however, 55 percent of the units will be set aside for families whose incomes do not exceed 60 percent of the median income, while 45 percent will be offered at market rate.
