NEWARK, NJ — Volunteer Lawyers for Justice raised $21,000 for anti-bullying efforts during a June 8 event run by its Generation Now Young Professionals Group. More than 100 business owners, bankers, lawyers, technology and insurance industry representatives, accountants and others turned out for the summer soiree and barbecue at the Essex Fells Country Club.
VLJ comes to the aid of some of the most vulnerable members of society. When a child is bullied at school, eight out of 10 times no adult intervenes to help. Families frequently feel isolated and helpless. VLJ provides families with the representation to ensure their bullied children, many of whom also have special education needs, receive the appropriate school education to which they are entitled. VLJ connects them with lawyers and experts in school, youth and family violence.
Generation Now, chaired by Gemma Giantomasi of Chiesa Shahinian & Giantomasi in West Orange, welcomes young professionals who are interested in supporting VLJ, networking and attending fundraising events. For further information, contact Jane Newman Kessler at 973 233-4292 or [email protected]. VLJ, based in Newark and Montclair, has been providing pro bono representation to economically disadvantaged adults, children and families for 15 years.
