WEST ORANGE, NJ — The West Orange Scholarship Fund has announced their support of three events that will raise money for WOSF-related scholarships to be awarded at the Senior Awards Night to be held at West Orange High School in June 2017.
The first event is the sixth annual Stop For Nikhil 5K Run/3K Walk, to be held Sept. 18, beginning in Suriano Stadium at West Orange High School at 7:30 a.m. The foundation honors the memory of Nikhil Badlani, who was killed in an automobile accident caused by a distracted driver in 2011. On Sept. 21, 5 percent of the sales at Whole Foods Market located in West Orange Plaza at the corner of Prospect and Eagle Rock avenues will be donated to the West Orange Scholarship Fund for a scholarship to be given to a senior at West Orange High School interested in environmental science or the culinary arts.
The third event is the second Timothy Groves Memorial Scholarship Fundraiser, to be held Oct. 12 at the Wilshire Grand Loft from 6 to 8 p.m. The event is sponsored by the Shauger Group, West Orange PBA Local 25, West Orange Firefighters’ Association FMBA Local 28 and West Orange SOA Local 228, and honors the memory of lifelong West Orange resident and police officer Timothy Groves, who died from cancer in 2013. Established in 1923, the WOSF has awarded scholarships to deserving West Orange school students every year since 1925, assisting close to 1,700 students with now more than $1,100,000 since its inception. In 2015, 49 WOHS graduates received $61,900 in WOSF awards; 32 students received two awards making a total of 81 awarded scholarships.
In June 2016 the West Orange Scholarship Fund awarded a record 86 scholarships amounting to $67,600 for graduating students at West Orange High School.
